DFW October Monastic Visit 2016

"The urge to do and be that which is the noblest, the most beautiful of which we are capable, is the creative impulse of every high achievement. We strive for perfection here because we long to be restored to our oneness with God."
Paramahansa Yogananda
Special Sunday Services October 9th, 2016

Dear Friends and Members,

We have exciting news. Brahmacharini Angelina and Brahmacharini Emily of Self-Realization Fellowship will be giving our services on Sunday October 9th. This will be the first time in our history that the Dallas Fort Worth Meditation Group has hosted SRF nuns.

They will be here giving the SRF Regional Girl's Youth Day Program at Lake Texoma on October 8th and staying to inspire us with Master’s teachings on Sunday.

Please join us for this day of inspiration and fellowship.

The day’s activities are as follows:

10:00 am—Meditation Service
11:00 am—Lecture Service and Sunday School
12:00 pm—Catered Social
1:30 pm-----Satsanga

Satsanga--Satsanga is where the monastics answer questions in the context of Paramahansa Yogananda's teachings.

The Girl's Program is still open for registration.
The Boy's Program will be open for registration for another week.

Important notes for Girl's and Boy's Lake Texoma

There will be some outside activities such as a Lake Walk and Energization Exercises. Sneakers or walking shoes are recommended for outside instead of sandals. Ms. Lynn Meyer is concerned about feet safety as the grounds and lake shore are wooded ungroomed areas. An extra pair of clean shoes or slippers for inside the home would be recommended.
 October Charity Drive

This will be the third year we have joined with Good Samaritans of Garland, Inc. for our charity outreach. Because of our activities with Self-Realization Fellowship Youth Day Programs and services lead by ministers of SRF on Oct. 9th, we will begin our charity drive the week of October 10th.

Our drop off of items will be in the center of the bookroom as we have done before. You may begin dropping off items Wednesday, Oct. 12th. The items needed are listed below.

Good Samaritans of Garland, Inc. has a broad outreach in the greater Garland area and is affiliated with many local, national, and international advocates for the hungry and displaced assistance programs. Please check out their services web page. This is an impressively dedicated, organized and serious group serving the less fortunate.

Many pictures of Good Samaritans' operation are on their Facebook page.

Items In Need

The Good Samaritans' greatest need right now focuses on preparation of individual bags to be given to homeless individuals. Food in single servings and hygiene items in small travel sizes are greatly needed to make up enough bags to meet their current demand.

We are asking our members to provide the following items based on a list provided by Good Samaritans. Don’t worry about sorting or separating food and non-food items. We will do that prior to delivery.

The items needed include travel sized:
· Razors
· Shaving Cream
· Small Shampoo
· Toothbrush
· Washcloth
· Q-tips
· Bar of soap
· Socks ( because cooler weather is coming up )

FOOD ITEMS:
· Canned items that come with a pull-tab opening, and is in a one serving size.
· Soups with a pull tab if in a can or easy opening plastic.
· Granola bars, energy bars, nuts.
· Fruit in a plastic container (they come in a 4 to 6 pack).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
*This effort of ours will last the month of October, beginning Wednesday, October 12th, and ending Sunday, October 30th. We will then deliver all items to Good Samaritans of Garland.

*The collection space will be in a stack of boxes in the center of the book room.

Let's open our hearts and give generously on behalf of the disadvantaged and hungry in our community.
