Avolon Expands Fleet with 40 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

Major Aircraft Order Secures Future Growth

Avolon, a leading global aircraft leasing company, has announced a significant order for 40 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This order, valued at over $4 billion at current list prices, is set for delivery between 2027 and 2030.

Building on a Strong Partnership

This commitment marks a new chapter in Avolon’s ongoing collaboration with Boeing. The company previously received its first 737 MAX in 2017 and recently celebrated the delivery of its one-thousandth aircraft of this type. The latest order will increase the total size of Avolon’s owned, managed, and committed fleet to 870 aircraft.

Environmental and Operational Benefits

The 737 MAX offers substantial advantages for Avolon’s customers, with enhanced flexibility and up to a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions compared to older aircraft. This move reinforces Avolon’s dedication to sustainability by boosting the number of fuel-efficient aircraft in its fleet, thanks to the cutting-edge LEAP-1B engines and advanced technology winglets found on the 737 MAX.

A Long-Term Strategic Vision

This investment demonstrates Avolon’s confidence in the future of the aviation sector and its commitment to equipping airlines with the latest, most efficient aircraft. With strong demand for fuel-efficient planes and limited delivery slots, Avolon is poised to meet the future needs of its customers while supporting the global transition to greener aviation solutions.

Shareholder Approval Pending

The transaction is awaiting approval from the shareholders of Bohai Leasing Co., Avolon’s majority shareholder, with a decision expected by the end of May.

Daher to Begin TBM Aircraft Assembly in Florida by 2027

Expanding Production Capacity to Meet Growing Demand

Daher has announced plans to begin assembling its TBM aircraft at a new facility in Florida by 2027. This expansion is aimed at addressing the increasing demand for the aircraft and mitigating potential risks from US tariffs on European imports. With a growing orderbook and strong demand, particularly from the US market, the French manufacturer is positioning itself for rapid delivery times and enhanced production capabilities.

Strategic Location for Increased Output

The Stuart, Florida facility, acquired by Daher in 2022, will soon house a new assembly line designed to produce up to 60 TBM aircraft annually. This move is part of a broader strategy to expand manufacturing capacity in response to a robust pipeline of orders—200 TBM and Kodiak aircraft sold over the past two years. With a focus on reducing delivery wait times, this new line will help Daher meet the needs of its largely owner-pilot customer base.

New Line to Support Both TBM and Kodiak Aircraft

In addition to TBM production, Daher plans to introduce an assembly line for its Kodiak aircraft at the Stuart site in the future. While production of the Kodiak series is currently handled in Sandpoint, Idaho, the expansion to Florida will help alleviate capacity constraints and enable Daher to streamline operations for both aircraft types.

Hedging Against Potential Tariffs

Given that four out of five TBM aircraft are sold in the US, Daher’s decision to establish a domestic production facility makes strategic sense, particularly if tariffs on European aircraft are imposed. This move will mitigate the risk of potential trade barriers, providing a more stable and cost-effective supply chain for its American customers.

Revenue Growth and Future Challenges

Daher has seen significant growth, with revenues rising to €1.8 billion for 2024, fueled by strong aircraft deliveries. Despite challenges in its aerostructures division, the company remains on track to meet its ambitious goals by 2027, including focusing exclusively on the aerospace sector, increasing profitability, and reaching €2 billion in annual revenue.

SmartSky Enhances Inflight Data Security with Private Intranet

Revolutionizing Inflight Connectivity with End-to-End Security

SmartSky Networks has unveiled its innovative SmartSky Private Intranet (PI) routing, a new service designed to provide unparalleled data security for inflight connectivity. Powered by the advanced Skytelligence services platform, this new capability routes aircraft data securely, ensuring privacy from end to end without relying on traditional internet connections.

Dedicated Connection with No Bandwidth Sharing

SmartSky’s proprietary technology assigns a separate connection to each aircraft, eliminating bandwidth sharing common in other airborne networks. Data traffic is securely routed through SmartSky’s next-generation network and three private data centers, allowing aircraft operators to manage inflight data routing according to their specifications, bypassing the internet entirely if desired. This setup transforms the aircraft into a true node on the corporate enterprise network rather than an isolated exception.

First-Ever End-to-End Private Inflight Wi-Fi

Made possible by the Skytelligence services layer, SmartSky PI offers the first fully secure, end-to-end private Wi-Fi connection for inflight use. The service eliminates the need for VPNs and ensures all aircraft data, including electronic flight bags (EFB) and aircraft health monitoring, is transferred securely. SmartSky’s network operates in the unlicensed 60 MHz spectrum, providing 20 times the bandwidth of traditional air-to-ground systems. This vast capacity ensures real-time data transfer with minimal interruptions, improving operational efficiency and safety.

Improving Flight Operations and Data Security

This new capability allows critical flight data to be offloaded in real-time, preparing ground crews for maintenance needs ahead of landing and reducing aircraft-on-ground (AOG) time. In addition, the increased security and performance capabilities of SmartSky PI give aviation customers enhanced control over their inflight communications, safeguarding sensitive data and ensuring compliance with Aircraft Network Security Programs.
