Give your NonProfit
A Fundraising Edge
Wed. Sept. 28

For the first in our FY17 EDN series we are delighted to feature as our guest speaker Michael Davidson, a board coach with more than 30 years’ experience in nonprofit Board and Managerial Leadership, who will speak on the topic of Give Your Nonprofit Organization a Fundraising Edge.  This is a updated and finessed version of a presentation Michael held this June and we are inviting him to address our EDs in response to popular demand. You won't want to miss his practical and incisive advice!

This workshop will address two questions, the answers to which can help organizations to meet this challenge.
  • Why would board members want to fundraise?
  • Why do they resist fundraising?
Solutions can be found in structuring the fiduciary oversight and leadership work of the board to develop the motivation and skills for fundraising.

Michael has successfully coached the boards of more than 80 New York City area nonprofit organizations. He brings over 30 years of experience in nonprofit management as a nonprofit Board President, nonprofit Manager, nonprofit Consultant and Attorney as well as the perspectives of careers in Education, Anthropology and Law.
There will also be 30-40 minutes for questions, discussion and sharing your own experiences with working with your board to make it a more effective fundraising agent.
A 4-page report on our June 2016 meeting on Working With Volunteers is now available hereCasey Levene, Director of Volunteer Services at United Way of Western Connecticut, introduced United Way and two of its services (BoardServe, that recruits and trains candidates that could serve on your board; and Get Connected, a free tool enabling you to post your volunteer needs). Both Ms. Levene and Beth Ulman, Executive Director of Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, then outlined key activities to help find, train and get the most out of your volunteers.
