Subject: Call for Ideas for Affordable and Shared Spaces

CALL FOR IDEAS
DEADLINE:
Friday October 7, 5pm 2016
SPACE SUMMIT
NOVEMBER 2016:
CALL FOR IDEAS, PAPERS, PANELS

Many of the unresolved living, working, making, selling, performing, and exhibiting space issues and needs within our arts and culture community surfaced in a recent “charrette” held by the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, on behalf of the CT Office of the Arts, as part of its strategic planning effort. These include:

an awareness of un-used or under-used space that could be made available to cultural groups;
a great interest in sharing space (and educating owners/tenants of the productive benefits of sharing);
the wish that landlords could be more generous (or flexible) in renting/donating empty space;
the need for tax and other municipal incentives for cultural use of empty commercial space;
the need for bigger, better and better-equipped venues;
the shortage of required funding for renovations;
the need for a directory of available, usable, rentable, shareable and free spaces.

The Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County is proposing a day-long “Space Summit” in mid-November. This is a call for all those interested in proposing ideas for discussion, papers to be delivered, and panels to be assembled. We are interested in needs statements, ideas and proposals for solutions from artists (visual, writing, performing, electronic and more), arts and cultural nonprofits, developers, funders and others. Send your ideas, proposals and questions to: david@culturalalliancefc.org.
