The last Newsletter was particularly lengthy - but there were still some omissions. Below are announcements that didn't quite make it into the last Artists Newsletter.

Justin Weist is a classically trained oil painter who explores a variety of styles and subjects. Concentrating mostly on figure and still life painting, where he feels he has the most control in understanding and capturing the effects of light, he is perhaps most interested in creating an ethereal mood that can allow the viewer to respond by stepping out of the everyday. Justin has written: “While great paintings may serve as alternative realities to some, the practice of painting or picture making is a blissful addiction to others. My only endeavor in painting is to continue to learn the craft and maintain my state of bliss; however I do admire those who use painting to ask questions about the human condition or those who try to influence modes of thinking. At this point in my career I’m enjoying the freedom to experiment and search for the limits of painting by scrubbing at the film of familiarity.” He makes his own paint from pigments and manufactures his own oil mediums in his search for the full effect that oils can offer the observer. Born in Baltimore, Justin began studying painting at a young age at the Schuler School, from where, after a year at The Maryland Institute College Of Arts, he received his BFA. After 2 years of figure study at Circulo de Bellas Artes, Madrid, Justin received his MFA in 2001 from The New York Academy of Art Graduate School of Figurative Art. Justin’s teaching ranges from one-on-one instruction to portfolio classes, as well as advanced, 300/400-level drawing and painting courses at Greenwich Education & Prep, Silvermine Arts Guild, and Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts. Justin has shown at Stricoff Gallery, NY, Sotheby’s, Christie’s, The Salmagundi Club, Westport Arts Center, Carriage Barn Arts Center, Galleria Rossi, Italy, among others. See his website and Facebook page.
