Hello Dare2Draw friends and creators . . .
I've been in rooms with artists since 1984. The Chelsea Hotel, studios, classrooms, stages, the street.
Back in March I wrote to you about CreatorCØDE "LIVE" and a studio at 540 President Street in Gowanus. Will Eisner Week. Seven of New York's most intrepid sequential narrative creators in one room for a month. A landlord who actually wanted creators to succeed. We went back to the Eisner Ethos — gesture, encapsulation, the gutter, the page — and built a space where human work came first.
In that same letter I mentioned something called Zero Pixel.
This is that.
But first, what happened in between, plainly.
Our Kickstarter was hit with fraudsters, spam, and hackers. We asked the platform for help and got automated AI responses and links to outdated help articles. No person, ever. We suspended the campaign in February. The GoFundMe got us open and then went quiet. Since the spring I've covered the space myself, and 540 is still running.
I’m not telling you that to collect. I closed the GoFundMe this week. I’m telling you because it is the whole argument.
We get robbed twice.
Once by work-for-hire deals that never gave us a fair share. Again by AI systems training on our work without permission, without credit, without payment.
And when we go looking for help, a machine answers.
Same wall, twice. I stopped waiting for somebody else's platform to protect us.
So we built our own.
Through Dare2Draw Studios LLC, in that room at 540, we built Zero-Pixel — provenance infrastructure for visual storytellers. A direct challenge to automated art. Not a new set of rules to survive. A third option.
