Sure, we are told in Mathew 6:34 not to worry about tomorrow. If you read the whole of Mathew 6:25-34, it will be clear the Lord is saying worry is futile. I once read an old adage: Worry is like a rocking chair. It gives you something to do, but it gets you nowhere. Instead, use that energy to move on. There is still today to enjoy, to accomplish God’s will for this day. His directives for tomorrow will come, complete with the grace to perform them—and you will walk in His will for tomorrow. So, cease worrying. We are not aimlessly walking toward our horizons if we heed His voice. There’s a plan in the Book and God’s capable hand leading us through our days.
What’s worrying you? What is the cause of your sleepless nights and your restless days? God is speaking into your heart right now: “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow.” He pleads with you incessantly— Give Me all your worries and cares, for I am always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you. (1 Peter 5:7 LBCE). He reassures us in the psalms of old—Give Me your burdens and I will take care of you, I will not allow you to slip or fall. (Psalms 55:23)
How do you respond to these hope-filled words of life? “Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” (Psalm 62:8) God is waiting on you…waiting on you to let go of your agitating anxiety, your wearisome worry, your frantic fear, and exchange it with tranquil trust. Are you still hanging onto to a life-robbing emotion? Now release it into the Father’s care. Make the great exchange. Trust.
