Never Enough? – HL Ford
Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, “Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted.” So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten. (John 6:10-13 NIV)
Who does not feel unworthy at times? Perhaps you are hearing a whisper that your efforts to serve the Lord just do not count for much—that your offering is never enough.
A little boy who brought a lunch was not counted (only the 5,000 men were counted that picnic day) and his offering didn’t look like enough. You know the story, how Jesus multiplied the fish and bread. Everyone ate their fill. Twelve full baskets were left over—and not just crumbs.
Jesus is always the God of abundant supply. We do not ask for a crumb from his table, when He has prepared a table in the presence of our enemies (Psalm 23 NIV), and we are invited to come and dine. We do not have to be counted to be worthy. He makes us worthy. And our offering is always multiplied to bless others.
Father, I have an enemy who tells me I am never enough. Please show me how to feast on the Bread of Heaven--Your words which are Spirit and life, (John 3:23 NIV). Help me so that I’m NOT focused on trying to get You to do what I want, but rather focused on doing what You want. I choose to let Your Word dwell in me richly, (Colossians 3:16 NIV). Then I will have abundance to offer to You, to multiply to others who are hungering and thirsting for your righteousness. Amen.
