What God Wants by Sheldon Bass

“O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them” (Deuteronomy 5:29)

Hearing the deep yearning of our loving creator’s heart should certainly be an intense motivator to the human heart. The Lord desires that it “be well” with you. Oh how the Lord longs to lead us into a full and rich life, filled with purpose, joy and fulfillment! The direction He gives is uncomplicated—so simple to understand. “Fear God and always keep all of His commandments.” Yet, in practice we run into difficulty. Weakness of the flesh thwarts our effort. Struggles grip the mind with fear. Doubt relegates us to the same old paths of cyclic failures. Why is it so hard to obey God all the time?

If you’re feeling snug or smug in your righteousness today, you need only compare yourself to the perfect paradigm of holiness and goodness—Jesus. Our sinfulness stands out in stark contrast with His righteousness.

In Christ however, is shown a way. Through faith we stand in His strength, negating our weakness. Knowledge of God’s awesome love and power obliterates our fear, allowing us to endure through the struggles. Constant fellowship with the Great Shepherd of our souls through prayer, bible study and remaining amidst the people of God’s family, gives us the assurances we need to cast that doubt aside. In Christ, the victory is ours. “Be well”, always. That is His will for you. God is for us. Nobody can stand against us when we stand upon our faith in Jesus, except for ourselves.
