Lazarus Come Forth! - by Toni Babcock

"Lazarus come forth," were the words Jesus called into a dead man's tomb, and Lazarus heard the word of the Lord and came forth (John 11:43-44 KJV).

Such was our spiritual condition when we first heard the word of the Lord and stepped forth "from the dead" to follow Jesus.

For the believer new life in Christ begins with Jesus, "… the author and finisher of our faith," (Hebrews 12: 2 KJV). He is our example of faith-filled expectation. If Jesus opens our ears, he expects us to hear. If Jesus brings light into the soul, he expects us to see. If Jesus rattles our conscience revealing our sin, the power of the risen Lord is at work within us; He expects us to respond and repent of that sin - to step out of the tomb of unbelief and follow Him. We may be bound by grave clothes. We may need assistance in removing the stinking rags of destructive habits and toxic temperaments, but still our eyes are upon our risen Lord; full of hope, full of expectation "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ," (Philippians 1:6 KJV).
