Grace Each Day With Thanks by Karen Pourbabaee

“…in everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:18

My first response in discovering this anonymous quote was, “What a beautiful thought!” We should give thanks every day, not just THE day, Thanksgiving. It’s God’s command in 1 Thessalonians. Then I took a closer look at the word grace, its verb form meaning to decorate or adorn. Giving thanks decorates our days, adding beauty and a festive touch. Gratitude is a little path to adorn our hours with splendor. To look at life through a different lens no matter what is going on around us. We’re given the gift of each day. We can choose to embellish it with thanks. Or we can walk through a drab day filled with negativity, complaining, etc. God gives us that freedom. But living a grateful life will help us to live a happy life.

The second definition of the verb grace is “to bring honor to, to dignify.” If indeed this day is a gift of God, shouldn’t we seek to bring honor and dignity into it? How? Give thanks in everything! Honor the day the Lord has made by offering the sacrifice of thanksgiving. (Psalm 50:14)

God’s presence comes in response to thanksgiving, for God dwells in our praise. (Psalm 22:3) Thankfulness also produces the peace of God in our hearts and brings joy to our soul. (Psalm 16:11) Therefore, grace each day with thanks!
