God’s Providence – by Susan Ferguson

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NIV)

Sometimes life is difficult, a death occurs, health issues arise, a child goes astray, or the job ends. During such times, our minds are busy trying to process it all. When faced with trials, it’s hard to imagine any good coming from them. All the while, God’s providence is at work bringing about His will for our lives and His glory.

Our Heavenly Father governs the world, upholding heaven and earth by His power, yet a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice. Our lives are not left to the whims of chance. We are created by God, who knows the number of hairs on our head. As Christians, we can be confident that Jesus will be with us through every trial we face.

Joseph, the son of Jacob, is a good example of God bringing good out of bad circumstances. Joseph was thrown into a pit by his jealous brothers, sold into Egyptian slavery, falsely accused of rape and imprisoned. Throughout it all, God was with him. Joseph rose to prominence as the highest official under Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt. During Egypt’s seven-year famine, he was responsible for saving many lives, including his brothers. He forgave his brothers, and the family reunited and settled in Egypt. Joseph understood that what his brothers intended for harm, God intended for good.
