Attention Deficit - by Antje Hill 

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”

I go to baseball and football games with my husband, not because I love them, but because he does. He patiently explains why this or that play was made. It’s not that I didn’t listen when he first explained. But there are lots of things to grab my attention, as I try to focus on the game and my willing husband’s explanations. It takes deliberate focus to conquer our increasingly short attention spans. 

Do you think many times we are preoccupied when God speaks to us? How often has he nudged us to notice the wildflowers along the highway? Maybe He wants us to notice the thunderstorms as they billow and roll across the sky. Or maybe He tells us to slow down and live in the moment. 

I don’t believe God is silent, as He walks with His children each day. I believe He delights in talking with us. Can you imagine His joy when we make the decision to close everything down and just be with Him? How patient God is to wait until we find a convenient time. How kind He is to look beyond our earth-bound ways, to see our yearnings and desires to be more like Him. He never forgets we are but clay.
