A Back for the Burden – Lillian Rhoades

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9 NKJ) … And My burden is light (Matt 11:30 NKJ) 

I had never heard the term until one day a friend used it to summarize her attitude about a serious problem she was facing. “I’m doing fine,” she replied to my question. “God gives back for the burden.” Her plain-speaking, straightforward response was a no-frills expression of what God said to Paul. And it’s what He says to us when the weight of our problems threatens to give us a spiritual backache. He assures us that for every burden, He will provide what we need to strengthen our spiritual and emotional backbone. So that what was weak becomes strong. What seemed heavy weighs less.

A “light” burden may seem like an oxymoron to many. After all, by definition, aren’t all burdens heavy? Ah! But let’s not focus on the burden, but rather on who gives us the wherewithal to bear it. By concentrating on God, our burdens go through His weight reduction program. So when you’re feeling the crushing weight of an unresolved problem, or you’re growing weary from the pressure of endless trials, remember that our burdens are heavy only when we try to bear them without the provisions He offers. By the magnitude of His grace and the certainty of His strength, we can always have a back for the burden.
