Childlike Faith by Jeff Lockshin

17 “Truly I tell you; anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Luke18:17 (NIV)

We can learn a lot from young believers. Newly born-again, my daughter was having her “honeymoon” experience with the Lord. Every day she called Mom with fresh exciting news about what God was showing her, and how she so deeply felt his presence and love, and how bright her future looked, and how bubbly great it all was. It disturbed me that, as a “mature Christian” I was only nominally happy for her, and frankly a bit jealous. I recall thinking “We’ll see what happens when the honeymoon is over.” “Been there, done that, she’ll get over this high and settle down to mediocrity.”

Eventually my envy gave birth to the question of where was my enthusiasm for Him? On a scale of one to ten, maybe a four. As I pondered the question I recalled the high level of joy and wonder I once knew during my own honeymoon with God. That’s when a surge of Hope sprang up in me that just maybe I could take a second honeymoon.

On my way to honeymoon central a thought occurred. During all my years of complacency, He was always with me. I had walked a wide path, trading faith for pharasitic religiosity. Well no more! The second honeymoon had begun! I’ve learned that what the world labels as childish, Christ highly esteems!! My perpetual inner and often outer smile testifies to that. Childlike faith works!
