God’s Word is Incorruptible Seed
Michael Edwards
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. 1 Peter 1:23 KJV
Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14), the incorruptible seed that has allowed us to be born again to an incorruptible inheritance. A deep understanding of the reliable nature of God’s Word can change our life.
In Mark 4, Jesus tells the parable of the Sower and states that understanding this parable is key to understanding all parables.
Then Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? Then how will you understand any of the parables? Mark 4:13 BSB
In the parable, the incorruptible seed of God is cast on four different types of ground. Its fruitfulness is always based on the soil it encounters, a picture of our hearts and mind.
The parable of the Sower relates to the spreading of the gospel and to any promise of God. For example, when the Word tells us that God will provide for our needs, we need not fear. These Words are incorruptible seeds, ready to produce a great harvest. As we read, they are cast upon our hearts and mind. If we accept, believe, and mix them with faith, they are guaranteed to produce fruit. Minimal or no fruit can be created by seed cast in areas of our life where we have hardened our heart and mind by surrendering it to doubt, worry, and fear.
The point we need to get is that God’s Word is perfect, beyond corruption, and to be believed and treasured. It is guaranteed to produce a great harvest when cast believed. Once we accept this, we can decide to abandon the doubt, worry, and fear we have embraced and believe God all out.
Lord, only You have the Words of life. Help me cast aside all doubt, and to trust, believe, and do as your word states in all areas of my life. Help me, Holy Spirit, to expect a great harvest in my life, as together, we prepare the soil of my heart and mind for God’s incorruptible seed. Amen
