In man’s earthly quest to impress, it’s human nature to want to take credit for things we ought not to give ourselves credit for. This human desire to take credit should take no place in the walk of a true believer. In fact, the ‘spiritual giants’ among us are those who typically desire to remain anonymous, and who always defer all the glory in view of their achievements to God.
Here’s an example: the faithful soul-winner who gives God all the glory. He knows he doesn’t ‘lead’ anyone to the Lord, but merely points people to Jesus, and then lets God take the lead. He prays about his witnessing opportunities in advance, knowing it is God who leads people to the Lord, just as Jesus said, “No man can come unto Me, except the Father which has sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day,” (John 6:44a KJV). This is God’s work after all, and what a wonderful work it is!
The faithful soul-winner’s plans are fluid. He never insists sinners repent ‘his way’ following a particular script he’s chosen, at the time and place he’s decided on so he can score spiritual points. Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. There is nothing inherently wrong with using spiritual tracts or booklets to point people to Jesus, as long as we don’t lead people to believe that parroting a particular script saves them (instead of believing the truth of the gospel and putting their trust in Christ.) Repentance and faith is something only God can achieve in the heart of the individuals we witness to – so then God gets all the glory. This is why we must be faithful witnesses — ever prayerful, discerning, and wise in all our witnessing endeavors.
