Seasonal Changes – by Sharon Dow

“This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24 NIV

We, in North America, are experiencing another change of seasons. As summer gives way to fall, creation puts on a remarkable display of colours. The days are shorter, there is a chill in the air, and winter is not far behind.

When we observe Psalm 118:24, we begin to understand that this day, today, has been made by God. That includes all the good and the bad that will unfold during its hours with us. But we have been advised to rejoice and be glad. Granted that is easy on a pleasant summer day when all seems right in our little corner of the world, but the challenge comes when the day is dark, the storms swirl, and difficulties enter our personal space. Our lives go through seasonal changes, too. We age and loved ones fall ill and are called home. How can we rejoice in the face of death?

But just as the seasons follow each other in the pattern laid down by God at creation, so our lives follow a pattern and we will all be called home. Then on that day, we’ll rejoice as we’re reunited with our loved ones and see the face of God.
What will you do today? Will you rejoice and be glad? Will you remember that this is the day the Lord has made? I challenge you to rejoice; whatever your season.
