Today's Devotional
What If? – by Keith Henry

“But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.” Ruth 1:16 (NIV)

As I grow as a writer, thanks to FaithWriters.com, I have learned that every character, every prop, every spoken word in a story has relevance on the story’s outcome. Bible stories like that of Ruth reveal this truth: One decision could have and would have changed the entire course of the story. What if Ruth had decided to not follow Naomi? It is hard for us to imagine an alternate ending to the Bible; but that is exactly what there would be if Ruth had not followed Naomi.

What if our decisions, the choices we make, the words we speak are changing the ending of the greatest story ever told?

Christians are characters in this ongoing story of Christ; our roles are no less important than any of the other characters in this magnificent story. Our every word, action, and choice is relevant to the outcome of this ongoing story. It is hard for us to imagine any of the great Bible characters doing anything other than they did, but they were just like us--broken, beaten, confused, and cautious; they too could easily have said no and thrown a wrench into the whole story. They all, however, had faith and placed their lives in the hands of the living God. Have you placed your life in the hands of the great Author? Don’t let your decisions change the end of the greatest story ever told; have faith in Him.
