Don’t Re-Arm Your Enemy – by M. Edwards

“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.” 1 Cor 15:56

Satan tricked Adam into doubting God and thus breaking the one commandment he had been given. This gave sin the power to condemn us, a weapon for satan. (Rom 5:19).

Thankfully Jesus fulfilled the law and thus disarmed the enemy. “And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.” Col 2:13-15 ESV

Now disarmed, the only thing satan can do is rely on deception in an attempt to make us think he is still armed. He wants us to believe we are still under the law. If we are deceived as the Galatians were (Gal 3:1-14), satan knows that even though we are not under the law and its condemnation, we will live as though we are.

Even imagined condemnation brings guilt, fear, worry, addictions, poor health and a whole host of other things. When we experience these, we have placed ourselves back under the law to some extent. We have done exactly what Adam did in the beginning, deceived into doubting God’s word. Sin can only cause condemnation when we look away from Jesus and His finished work to our own efforts, placing ourselves under the law. This re-arms satan in our experience and Paul would call us fools (Gal 3:1).

The solution is to focus totally on the finished work of Jesus and our identity in Christ, not ourselves (Rom 6:14). Go Here
