How Heavy is God? – by Abby Kelly

“All nations whom thou hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall [make weighty] thy name.” Psalm 86:9

In English, we have no idea where many of our casual phrases came from. When we say, “Gee, that’s heavy”, we might mean a couple things. The first thing that comes to mind when we say something is “heavy” is that it is hard to lift or carry. Otherwise, we might mean that it is profound, deep, requires a lot of thought or is even depressing.

The Hebrew word for “honor” is actually translated, “heavy”.

Understanding the command to honor the Lord makes it easier for us to obey that command. He is of greater consequence than anything else that concerns us. We are to give Him priority, significance and respect. He is more than an invisible God; He is a present person with greater “weight” than anything else we love or desire.
