Life-Hacker by Anna Darlene Edmondson

“He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.” (Psalm 91:11 KJV)

Are you a life-hacker? Are you being hacked? Ah---these modern terms Generation Xers make up. I’m slow on the uptake or latest trend. I heard the term ‘life-hacker’ a few weeks ago and investigated. It turns out that it means if someone is inquisitive about your personal business, car you drive, latest news about travels, your children or boyfriend (for the younger generation), clothes you wear, books you read, then they will hack or adapt those things to make their own life easier.

Supposedly, a life-hacker isn’t satisfied with his or her own lifestyle. Desiring or missing out on fun, the life-hacker looks to others who have exciting careers, educational benefits, wealthy; social climbers and name-droppers, if you will. Life hacking is harmless unlike actual identity theft.

Here’s the rub. If you’re busy nosing into other people’s lives, when will you get around to blossoming into your own flower? We’re created in God’s image, unique and unlike anyone else. Fearfully, wonderfully made and equipped to accomplish our individual potential. Stay in your own lane.

We need only run the predetermined race designed with divine guidance. I often step into my husband’s designated lane. As if, you know, I could do better. Wrong.

I do, however, think there’s one life worth hacking into---Jesus. In fact, He invites all would-be hackers to learn of Him, follow Him, dine with Him, and become one with Him. Take that, wannabes. Life to its fullest! Seriously, let’s take a chance on someone who will never let us down but satisfies every longing---one offering what this world can’t give. One who gave his life that we might know ultimate contentment.
