Today's Devotional
A TALE OF TWO HEARTS- by Stephanie White

... He made David their king. He testified concerning him: "I have found David son of Jesse A MAN AFTER MY OWN HEART; he will do everything I want him to do." Acts 13:22 NIV

David was described by God as a man after His own heart. The word after means FROM or ACCORDING TO. As we all know, God used David in many mighty ways; we also know that David's actions were not always perfect. God is not limited by our performance. Too many people are deceived into believing that their actions limit God's ability to use them. After all, how could God use an adulterous murderer? We must understand what limits God is US! God could use David because David understood the tale of two hearts! David had a heart that was from or according to God's heart; nonetheless, he still had a heart that was from his flesh to deal with.

When we accept Christ as Savior something new takes place; we receive a new heart, a new Spirit - the Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36:26; 2 Corinthians 5:17)! God tells us that He removes our heart of stone. The word remove was translated from the Hebrew word sur which means to turn off. When we are walking in our new nature, or walking in the Spirit, our flesh is turned off. WE CANNOT PARTICIPATE IN BOTH NATURES AT THE SAME TIME! We must CHOOSE one or the other. We choose by deciding to focus on the Word or deciding to focus on ourselves, our feelings, our thoughts, our circumstances, and so on.

God provides us with what we need to live through Him (Deuteronomy 30:6); we can live according to the Spirit!
