Love Song of a Flower Child
Mary Patricia Anthony

This is a riveting story of redemption in which the author describes her "lost" years as a hippie in Berkeley, and then as a single mother of two children living in a shack on a mountain top in Big Sur where Jesus finds her at the brink of suicide and rescues her from fantasy and hopelessness.

Regroup, Readjust, and Realign – by Susan Ferguson

Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:2 KJV)

Looking back and remembering all that God has done in my life strengthens my faith. Too often, I get distracted by daily living and my focus on Jesus starts to dim. As I look back, I recall how God brought me through every trial I faced. Reflecting on His faithfulness allows me to regroup, readjust my focus, and realign my priorities.

The children of Israel are a good example of how easy it is to lose focus. When Moses delivered them out of slavery in Egypt, God performed miracles right before their eyes. He divided the waters of the Red Sea, and the people walked through on dry ground. When Pharaoh’s army followed them into the sea, God drove the waters back in their place and flooded the army. Not one Egyptian soldier remained alive. Finally the people were free, and they lifted up their voices and sang praises to God. But soon afterward, they complained of not having enough to eat and drink, and they wanted to go back to Egypt. They took their eyes off of God and began focusing on what they didn’t have. As a result of their disobedience and unbelief, they wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.

I look at the children of Israel and wonder how they could have lost sight of God after witnessing such miracles. Then I’m reminded that I too tend to focus on what I don’t have. Living in a world that requires my time and attention, I thank God for His grace when my focus is unsteady and my priorities are out of line.
