WHERE ARE YOUR THOUGHTS TAKING YOU? – by Stephanie M. White
If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country - a heavenly one. Hebrews 11:15-16 (NIV)
Where are your thoughts taking you? They can take you back to where you came from, or they can take you into all that God has in store.
As a child of God, you have been given a new life in Christ. You can receive from Him through His Word and live this Spiritual (heavenly) life. You can experience heaven here on earth, but it is your choice. This choice is determined by your thought life. You can choose to dwell on what you left behind when you received Christ; however, you must understand the consequences of that choice. God's Word tells us that as a man thinks, so he becomes (Proverbs 23:7). Your thoughts are powerful; they will determine the course of your life.
Are you thinking more about your circumstances or God's promises? Are you focused more on your past or your present? God has given you a new life in Christ but you must choose to live it. Continuing to dwell on past hurt and failure will only lead you to more hurt and failure. God has something better in mind. Are you in agreement with His plan? Are you looking for something better? Something heavenly?
We need to leave the past where it belongs - behind us. Paul told us to forget what is behind and reach for what is ahead (Philippians 3:13). Long for that heavenly country - and remember that you can begin to experience it right here on earth!
