Today's Devotional
In Solitary – Pam Ford Davis

When incarcerated, solitary confinement is severe punishment.

Yet, at times we benefit greatly by being in solitary; it is time well spent.

“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed. And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him. When they found Him, they said to Him, ‘Everyone is looking for You (Mark 1:35-37 NKJV).”

Neither time nor space confined Christ. He purposely distanced Himself away from His disciples and crowds. In solitude, He prayed; He communed with His Father. He set an example for you, for me.

King David opened and closed his day with devotion.

“O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You
In a dry and thirsty land
Where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.

Because Your lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips shall praise You. Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name (Psalm 63:1-4 NKJV).”

Prayer and meditation strengthened him.

“When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.
Because You have been my help,
Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice (Psalm 63:6-7 NKJV).”

The Savior beckons; He draws me to solitary places.
