Prophecy Fulfilled - Phyllis Inniss
“And He said, Go and tell this people, Hear and hear continually, but understand not: and see and see continually, but do not apprehend with your mind.” (Isaiah 6:9)
The Old Testament prophets prophesied about Jesus and these prophesies were fulfilled in the New Testament. The Jews who were versed in the Scriptures looked forward to the Messiah, yet when they saw Him and the miracles and healings that He performed, they rejected Him. Their envy of Him blinded them to all His goodness and so they were unable to see Who He was or hear What He said. The prophecy that the people would see and hear but would not understand was fulfilled just as God said.
We, who are fortunate to believe in Jesus, to see what the scriptures say of Him and to hear His words, have an important role to play. We are to live our lives so that others can see Him in us. We are to carry out the great commission, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 28:19).
I remember when I too would read the Bible or hear a sermon and miss the true meaning of what was there or what I heard. It was not until I felt this great desire to know Jesus and to study His Word that understanding came to me and I listened more attentively to what the Minister or Pastor was saying. Jesus said that we can do nothing without Him. Before starting any venture or launching into any enterprise we have to ask His guidance and leadership. We can always trust Him to be with us in any endeavor we undertake.
