A Gift from God Awaits You Today
Katy Foster

Psalm 9:11 (NKJV) is a command: “Sing praises to the LORD.”  It’s not a suggestion or a good idea, or something to think about; it’s a command.  Furthermore, we’re not instructed to practice first, so we’re on key.  We may conclude that it’s just not our “thing.”  However, it still stands firm as a command – sing.  But why?

This command, like all of God’s commands, is a gift to us.  In obeying this command, we receive joy from God.  Isaiah 51:11 exclaims, “So the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads.  They shall obtain joy and gladness; sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”

There’s a transformation that happens when we sing to God.  His magnitude and glory surround us.  We’re humbled, and all our thoughts, worries, and flesh become minuscule.  All our confidence is in the LORD God Almighty.  What follows is everlasting joy and gladness, and it doesn’t just happen that way.  It’s a gift that God pours upon His children as we sing.  God wants us to obey this command because He wants to give us joy.  How great is His love for us!

As Paul and Silas were shackled in the pits of a prison, they sang praises, and God poured miracles upon their lives.  Therefore, our mood should not dictate when we sing.  Sometimes, I feel distant from my Bible readings or my prayers with God.  I know when these times come, I can always pull out that small raggedy piece of paper from my Bible with my list of praise songs and hymns.  When I sing to our Father, although off-tune and feeling a bit awkward at first, He reminds me that He’s near, and He never left.  How marvelous! How wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous! How wonderful! Is my Savior’s love for me!

Recent Amazon Review:

"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus; but truth defeats lies every time and never forsakes the believer." 2-18-17
