| | | | | You Can’t Make a Mistake – Ken Ebright
“In Christ we are set free by the blood of his death, and so we have forgiveness of sins. How rich is God’s grace,” (Ephesians 1:7 NCV).
When I was a senior in high school, I was considering getting into television production. At one of the schools I toured, I remember a student saying, “If you make a mistake, you’re fired.” For people behind the scenes in production, you’re expected to be absolutely perfect and not make a mistake. Most major market TV stations will not hire somebody who just graduated from college. If you want to get hired at a major network you will have to go through three interviews.
It’s hard for me to talk about my mistakes. I worked for a local cable channel. One day we were going to videotape a baseball game. I was setting up a camera on top of a dugout. I didn’t have it latched properly on the tripod, so the camera fell to the ground. That could have been grounds for my firing. However, my supervisor John didn’t fire me. Instead, a few years down the road he changed to a different position at a public access cable channel and hired me to work part-time with him.
In the television business, you have to be totally perfect. To get into heaven you have to be totally perfect, too — but of course we all fall short of that perfection. That’s why I’m thankful God gave me grace much like my supervisor John. If it wasn’t for the blood of Jesus, I could not have attained redemption, but Jesus’ blood sealed my righteousness in Him. It was done because of God’s Grace. Because Jesus died, he can forgive my big mistakes. Your mistakes can be forgiven, too. To spend eternity with Jesus you have to call upon his name and he will save you. Have you called upon his name?
