Where is Your Dwelling Place? (91st Psalm - Part 1) Karen Pourbabaee
“You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High. Who abide in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 NAB
Dwell: Location, location, location, so goes the popular real estate adage.
Never so important as now. So, where do you dwell? Permanently reside? You need to be positioned so as to abide in the shadow of the Almighty, abide meaning to continue in a place. Setting up a tent occasionally in God’s presence will not suffice in the long run.
“Say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and fortress, My God in Whom I trust’.” (Ps. 91:2)
Say: God is on standby, waiting to hear from you. Announce your utmost trust in Him, leading others to follow. Testify that He is your refuge and fortress. People want to know where and to whom to go.
“God will rescue you from the fowler’s snare, from the destroying plague.”(Ps. 91:3)
Rescue: This is an all-encompassing rescue! Both spiritual and physical. The Lord promises to deliver you from the fowler’s snare. In Old Testament times, a fowler was a professional bird-catcher who set nets, traps, and snares to capture wild pigeons and doves for temple sacrifices. The psalmist declares God will deliver you from the evil plans, Satan’s trap, laid to ruin you. The Lord will also protect you in times of disease and plague!
“[God]Will shelter you with pinions, spread wings that you may take refuge. God’s faithfulness is a protecting shield.” (Ps. 91:4)
Shelter: Shelter in place takes on new meaning in our times. The Father promises to be your shelter. Your safe place. He covers you like a mother bird spreads her wings to enclose her young. In God’s shelter, He becomes your protecting shield.
I will run to the shelter of the Most High and dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. Amen.
