Sing a New Song - Karen Pourbabaee “Hallelujah! Sing to the Lord a new song, His praise in the assembly of the faithful.” Psalm 149:1 NABRE
The term “new song” appears seven times in the Old Testament. It can be found in Psalms 33:3, 40:3, 96:1, 98:1, 144:9, and 149:1, as well as Isaiah 42:10, Revelation 3:9 and 14:3. It was most often associated with a type of psalm known as a song of victory. This is illustrated in Psalm 98:1: “Sing a new song to the Lord, for He has done marvelous deeds, His right hand and holy arm have won the victory.” New songs are given to us when we go through new experiences with the Lord. When we develop greater levels of trust in Him in the midst of trials and adversities. When our faith rises and God is drawn to our rescue. Those new songs are put in our hearts by God’s grace. There will be songs of battle, and ultimately songs of victory! New life sings new songs. New songs that celebrate who God is and what He has done.
Here is a word from David: “Surely I wait for the Lord; who bends down to me and hears my cry. Draws me up from the pit of destruction, out of the muddy clay. Sets my feet upon rock. Steadies my steps, And puts a new song in my mouth, a hymn to our God. Many shall look on in fear and they shall trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:1-4 NABRE)
When God has rescued you and set your feet on the Rock, tell others about it so they, too, may come to trust in the Lord. Every experience with the Lord writes a new song in your heart, a song that tells of His greatness and His grace.
