Never Unemployed - Robert Schaetzle
At a Saturday morning men's breakfast at church, I was listening to a young man share his testimony. During his message, he mentioned he was unemployed.
Afterward, before everyone departed, I went over and shared something with him that gave him a new perspective on 'the Great Commission.' Once we come to faith in Jesus, we become Spirit-led, and our values and vocation change.
I explained to this young man; "I came to accept Jesus at age 15 and am now 80 years old, and I've never been unemployed. I've never been unemployed because my real vocation is as a fisher of men."
Becoming a 'Follower of Jesus,' our true calling is no longer what we do to put bread on the table and pay the bills. The Apostle Paul was a tentmaker by trade. I was employed 40 years working for the U.S. Government in administrative responsibilities. But, I always viewed this as a job, not my calling.
Once we make a profession of faith to follow Jesus, God does the equipping for what He has called us to do. We are fishers of men and citizens of heaven, the King's ambassadors to this world. We will never be unemployed, and the treasure we build here is guaranteed to be waiting for us in eternity, when we arrive home.
Then He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Mathew 4:19 NKJV
