Can We Delight God's Heart? - H L Ford
Maybe you've seen the commercial where a nurse says to a little girl, "Today we're going to try something different." A gentle therapy dog lifts its head to be petted. The child's soft "aww" is filled with such achingly joyful delight as she embraces the dog.
When I heard that sound of pure joy in the child's voice, it seems the Holy Spirit whispered, "In the same way, God delights in blessing His children and hearing our “aww” of joy."
I "aww" at the autumn colors, the rising moon, the gentle autumn rains, the beauty of the stars and so much more. I sometimes sing praises while seeing these wonders.
Even more, I "aww" at the indescribable thought that God "awws" over you and me. Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is in your midst . . . He will rejoice over you with gladness . . . he will exult over you with loud singing."
So many times, we think of God as a stern judge waiting to discipline His children instead of the Father Who says it is His good pleasure to give His kingdom to those who seek Him first and foremost. Clearly, if we delight in His presence, He is delighted with us.
Thank You, Father; teach us how to bring delight to Your heart. Amen.
