Paraclete's Promise: The Fantastic Fantasies Of Timothy
Ennis Smith

Tim wants to sit before the television and immerse in the world of video games. When Mom and Dad discourage the idea, he tromps down the basement steps to find his imagination secretly awaiting his arrival, in the form of a box. A few toys and supplies are gathered, and stocked inside the box in preparation for a great adventure. Unfortunately, before his imagination can explode into life, he falls asleep...or does he?

Today's Devotional
Setting Our Heart - Jennifer Woodley

'For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach the statutes and ordinances in Israel.' (Ezra 7:10 NRSV).

Ezra had 'set his heart.' Can anyone in such a distracted society, which entices the affections of our heart in so many different directions, possibly set their heart to do anything with full intention anymore? We live in a climate vying for our attention. Single-mindedness is counter-cultural. We must decide to set our heart to follow Christ and His calling on our lives and then resolutely discipline ourselves to daily do just this.

The Scriptures are full of examples of men and women who yielded themselves to God. Jesus set his face towards Jerusalem as He went to be crucified, David, despite his shortcomings, yearned for an undivided heart, Nehemiah gave himself fully to the work God required of him, Mary surrendered her heart to the unbelievable words of Gabriel and Jeremiah followed obediently the commission God gave to him.

Today is it possible to live like this? I think so, yet we must expect hardship, especially living in such a complex culture. At times we will feel like we are swimming against a strong current. Living simply, with singleness of purpose, not losing sight of the end goal and dependence on the indwelling Holy Spirit in all situations are the keys to successfully setting our hearts. And could it be that as our love for the Savior grows deeper and stronger, setting our hearts becomes easier?

Heavenly Father, direct our hearts into the hope of your love and a deep dependence on your Spirit. Remind us of Christ's steadfastness in obeying you, so that we might also be resolute in your purposes for us. Amen.

FaithWriters are Fulfilling The Great Commission Together!

As we help you become the writer God has called you to be, you help us spread the gospel in over 230 countries online. Here is a quote from a reader who accepted Jesus on FaithWriters. His life will never be the same because one writer “put pen to paper” and shared it.

‘I literally was transformed and totally healed in an instant upon trusting in Jesus as my lord and savior. The love, joy, light, and peace I feel is way more than words or thoughts can express. This new life of being a true Christian, who is saved, Spirit-filled, born-again, fully and truly converted by the living holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, is going to carry my being further than anyone could ever imagine. It will be the most blessed, rewarding, and holy life in the Lord, which I have embarked upon now.’” Roger P.
