Today's Devotional
Mingling Heaven and Earth
Anna Darlene Edmondson

"Glory to God in the highest…" (Luke 2:14 ESV)

Christmas came. Clothed in a mantle of brilliant radiance, heaven's out-streaming glory dwelt in a parched world. In search of sinners, the Light of the world became a babe with Bethlehem's star pointing the way. Wrapped in swaddling rags, baby Jesus was carried to the temple. Did Mary's soul quiver upon hearing the stabbing words of Simeon "…a sword will pierce your heart" (Luke 2:35)?

Long before the Christ Child appeared, God mixed red clay with Divine in Eden (Gen 2:7) and only (His) breath gave Adam life. The chief of God's works, I might add, and whom the Maker destined to be lord of all on earth (Psalm 8:3-8). In the Genesis story of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the starry firmament declares more revelation. Here, we find Jacob dreaming of a stairway extending from the ground (on which he lay) to heavenly realms, suggesting God's desire for fellowship with mankind (Gen 28:10-19).

Further on, Nathanael (one of the twelve) doubted anything 'good' would come from Nazareth. Jesus strengthened his faith, saying,"I saw you under the fig tree." Then added, "… you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man" (John 1:48-51). It's likely Jesus is referring to Jacob's ladder and emphasizing that He Himself is the only access between heaven and earth.

With that in mind, let's anticipate magnificence "Too wonderful, that on such a slender thread, as the feeble throb of an Infant-life, the salvation of the world should hang---that tender thread (so long ago) has continued life in her Church today" (A. Edersheim Jewish Historian). May Christ intertwine our hearts with His this Holy Season.

‘I literally was transformed and totally healed in an instant upon trusting in Jesus as my lord and savior. The love, joy, light, and peace I feel is way more than words or thoughts can express. It will be the most blessed, rewarding, and holy life in the Lord, which I have embarked upon now.’” Roger P.
