Confession of Sins
By Deepika Emmanuel Sagar

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." – 1 John 1: 9 (NIV)

Sin is a word common in everyone’s vocabulary, but do we actually know what sin is? What do we repent of when we confess our sins? It was during the times of Moses that God laid laws for His people to keep them from committing sins. The knowledge of the law brought the knowledge of sin. But after the coming of Christ, we are not under the law but grace. Does that mean that we no longer sin? If so, then what do we repent of?

Relying on one’s own understanding, not acknowledging God is committing sin. Self-sufficiency and ignoring God is committing sin. God gave us the freedom from laws not to let us go astray, but to have a chance of being saved by His grace that we receive through Jesus Christ. God knows all our deeds, even before we confess them before Him. This confession is not for Him, but a realization for us that it’s only He who can bring a change in our lives, and we need to depend on Him fully. God will never let your trust down. When we confess our sins, we open gates for God to work in our lives, restoring in us His likeness in which we were made. It is then that we start walking as children of light.

When we do not approach God, we give a chance for Satan to crawl into our lives and have his way. So as the word says, submit to God (James 4:7) and purify your hearts (James 4:8). Let Lord have the charge of your life and then see how He supplies all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Amen.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to get closer to you as I confess my sins today. Amen.
