Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:8 NIV) 

The apostle Paul exhorts Christians to think on good things. Applying this Biblical truth to my life helps me manage my thoughts and keeps negative thinking at bay. When my thoughts are kept in check, I can keep my focus on Jesus and have His peace. 

As Christ-followers, we must give close attention to our thoughts. What we choose to dwell on can shape our lives for better or for worse. Bad thoughts can lead to bad actions, but good thoughts can help us prosper. Our thoughts are powerful and can even affect our health and well-being. Dwelling on our circumstances or replaying hurtful memories can take the joy out of life. When we fix our thoughts on Jesus, our problems become less magnified, and our hope is renewed. 

We live in a fallen world that encourages wrong thinking. If negative thoughts pop into the mind, we can reject them and replace them with good thoughts. We can refuse to dwell on thoughts that bring us down rather than build us up. Filling our minds with God’s Word is our best defense against negative thinking. When we trust Jesus and keep our thoughts on Him, we can live a life that is full and filled with His peace and joy.
