Psalm 23 for Kids
Louise Lee

This story happens to an ordinary boy on one ordinary day… David had become so “sheepy” that he couldn't recognize himself. What had happened? What are these strange-looking, smelly creatures all around him? Before David could figure out what had happened, he was in grave danger…

Review:  "It's interesting how the author weaved the story of the boy into the psalm. She skillfully transport the boy from contemporary times back to the time of the Psalm. A bedtime story that all kids can imagine themselves as sheep with a loving Shepherd protecting them in times of danger. They will learn that they can depend on Jesus all the time." Ang Eng

Take Time to be Refreshed
by Susan Barnes

"He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul."
Psalm 23:2-3

Christian retreats and camps often remind me of Elijah under the broom tree. God provided him with food (1 Kings 19:6), with sleep (v.5) and also with a friend, Elisha (v.16). I find that at camps and retreats I eat more, I sleep more and I often meet new friends. God provides these times of refreshment because he knows we need them.

Jesus took the time, not only to be alone with his Heavenly Father, but also to be with his friends. Jesus enjoyed eating with friends so much so he was accused of being "a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners" (Luke 7:34).

Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that "there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven" and even that "there is a time to weep and a time to laugh (v.4)." God wants us to lead balance lives where we are not always working or always resting. God had the Israelites set aside seven annual times for feasts and celebrations. It was an important part of their worship – time to remember, reflect and be refreshed.

A full diary is not a sign of greater commitment. Sometimes we need to take some "time out" to eat, sleep and make some new friends.
