| | | My Friend Dan – Ken Ebright
“Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times.” (Romans 12:12 NCV)
A man named Dan was in my Saturday morning Bible study group. At church he sang in the adult choir, and at other times he fixed my car and other people’s cars. He once served in the Illinois Air National Guard. I knew him for close to fifteen years before he died from a massive heart attack.
One aspect about Dan was that he was a prayer warrior. I think he became a prayer warrior because of family issues. At the end of our Bible study, Dan and other people in our group would pray. Dan would pray for people in his family and people in the church. I personally don’t always pray for people who encounter disasters, mainly because of all of the hardships that I have had in my life, but Dan always did. There were times when I emailed Dan about situations going on in my life, because I knew he would pray for me. He would pray all the time, like even whenever he walked his dog Rusty.
When I read the verse, I feel it fit Dan’s joyful spirit and hope in Jesus. That is because Dan knew Jesus listened to his prayers and answered them in His own timing. We can pray that way too.
When we don’t see our prayers answered right away, it can be challenging to be patient. But with Dan’s family problems, he was always patient, and trusted the Lord – so when troubles came, he just kept on praying. When problems arise, we can have hope and joy and be patient, too. I believe that there is no trouble we have that’s too big or small for Jesus to answer. What we need to do is to keep on praying. The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
