Are You A People Pleaser? – Toni M. Babcock

Most of the time, we look upon ‘people pleasing’ in a negative light — as a symptom of a weak-willed, compromising, and easily manipulated person. Yet, there is a godly kind of ‘pleasing’ others that we should recognize, appreciate, and aim to emulate as believers. It’s found in the book of Romans where we read, “Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves.” (Romans 15:1 CSB)

Clearly the believers being addressed here are not weak-willed push-over types who don’t know how to say ‘no’. In the context of both the 14th and 15th chapter of Romans we get the idea Paul is referring to strong Christians, firm in their convictions and having an unwavering faith. Yet God would not have such believers judge others who are not as mature or sure-footed as they are. In other words, we’re not to become ‘wise in our own conceits’ and flaunt our maturity in Christ.

The Apostle Paul reminds us “Therefore, let us no longer judge one another. Instead decide never to put a stumbling block or pitfall in the way of your brother or sister.” (Romans 14:13 CSB) We must be patient, prayerful, and careful in our words and actions towards those who are struggling to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. One word can draw them in or drive them away. We who are strong in Christ mentally and spiritually have an obligation to bear their weaknesses. “Each one of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to build him up. For even Christ did not please himself.” (Romans 15:2 CSB)

Meeting people where they are and pointing them to Christ without giving off a condescending or ‘holier than thou’ aura is crucial. We’re “…just one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread,” as one preacher put it (D.T. Niles).

"After reading your book, and being that I’m a cop, the evidence was compelling so the choice became easy. Thank you for being a big part of saving my life and seeing the truth about Jesus. My life has drastically changed for the better!!! I’ve handed out many of your books already, and can hardly wait to give more away! Thank you. And God bless!"

"For anyone on the fence, backsliding, or doubtful this book clarifies misunderstandings, perceived contradictions, and outright lies. I was led to read this book at a time when I thought I was over Jesus, but truth defeat lies every time and never forsakes the believer.”

"If false, Christianity is an irrelevant hoax. If true, Christianity is the most important fact for every human being. This little book concisely shows you why Christianity is true and what that means for you. No fluff, just the facts!" Dr. Frank Turek author/co-author of I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist

"Michael, I have ordered books a couple times now and have had nothing but good responses from the inmates that read it. I had one approach me with tears in his eyes thanking me for giving him a book that answered questions he has always wondered about regarding the Bible. I had another one ask me for another copy so he could mail it to his family to read. Another one told me that everyone in his pod was passing it around reading it, the cover made people ask what he was reading. He then asked if I could get more. I would like twenty more books please. It's nice to be able to give a concise apologetic at an affordable price." Gordon, a prison guard who has ordered books."

An in-depth study of the factual evidence leads a person to realize how little faith they need to believe, while it gives them great faith at the same time.
