| | | Anointed for Purpose: David and Jesus

Did you know that both David and Jesus were anointed three times, and each anointing carried divine significance? David’s life foreshadowed the coming of the Messiah. Each time oil touched David’s head, it marked a transition, a deeper calling. Similarly, Jesus, the Son of David, was anointed three times—each moment unveiling His redemptive mission.
David’s first anointing came from the prophet Samuel when he was a shepherd boy (1 Samuel 16:13, NKJV). The Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day forward. His second anointing came from the men of Judah (2 Samuel 2:4, NKJV), and the third was by the elders of Israel, marking him king over the unified nation (2 Samuel 5:3, NKJV).
Jesus, likewise, was anointed three times with oil, not just ceremonially, but prophetically. The first anointing came from a sinful woman in the house of Simon the Pharisee (Luke 7:37-38, KJV), revealing the grace and forgiveness He offers. The second was at Lazarus’s home by Mary (John 12:3, NKJV), showing devotion and preparing Him for burial. The third, at Simon the leper’s house, was a final act of honor before His crucifixion (Matthew 26:6-7, KJV).
Jesus also received a crown, but not of gold like David—it was made of thorns (Matthew 27:29, NKJV). Even this act was prophetic, showing He bore our suffering to reign in glory.
Personal Reflection:
Understanding these parallels deepens my faith. It reminds me that God’s plan unfolds with purpose. The anointings weren’t random—they were divine appointments pointing to redemption.

Father, thank You for revealing Your Son through the life of David. Amen!

The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
