Sammy's Skateboard
…... .in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NASB).
Sammy could not understand why God would give him something and then take it away.
When I lived in Hawaii, there was a little blond-haired boy named Sammy from the Big Island whose family taught me the value of giving thanks to God in all things.
Sammy lived with his single mother and siblings, facing financial challenges. Despite his circumstances, Sammy dreamed of owning a Hobie skateboard, considered the best and most expensive of its time. One Sunday, a church family gave Sammy an old skateboard, which brought him great joy, even though it wasn't the Hobie he wanted.
Shortly after, Sammy lost the skateboard when it rolled into a storm sewer. Distressed, he questioned why God would give him something and then take it away. His mother comforted him and emphasized the importance of gratitude in all situations, referencing our scriptural reference. She told him how God is good even when bad things happen to us. He tried to listen to his mom as well as his little heart would allow. Finally, she led him in a prayer that thanked the Lord that He can take bad and make good out of it.
She contacted the city's utilities department, and a worker retrieved Sammy's skateboard. But they noticed he went back down the ladder a second time. After a few moments, he returned, grasping a virtually brand-new skateboard in his hands. And yes, you guessed it, it was a Hobie. The utility worker said, "Until someone else claims it I guess it's yours." No one else ever claimed it.
This experience taught Sammy, his family, and me that even in difficult times, gratitude and faith in God can lead to unexpected blessings. Many dark clouds have silver linings. God is at work doing one-upmanship, always one step ahead of us, revealing His goodness. Thank you, Lord.

The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
