Hurting Souls by Lynn Gipson

Matthew 6:28 NLT “Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.”

Some days it is not as easy to feel the presence of God as others. This morning I woke with that old feeling of dread and wondered where my usual peace was. I thought about what might be causing my internal turmoil and remembered my anger at a family member. This particular member often causes me to momentarily lose my peace of mind, but usually I can pray for for that person and my serenity is restored.

That was the answer to my wonderment right there! I remembered I hadn't prayed last night. Instead I had went to bed in a stew and let it simmer overnight. Quickly I said a heartfelt prayer thanking God for reminding me that I should be praying for them,  instead of letting them interfere with my own relationship with God.

Praying for those who say hurtful things and interfere with our serenity is the only way I know to handle situations like that. People who intentionally say things to hurt others usually do so because they are hurting inside themselves. Pray for their hurting souls.
