| | | | | Called To Do Good, Called To Suffer Cheryl Weber
“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.” 1 Peter 2:21 NLT
Jesus laid aside his own good, his own comfort, and suffered in order to fulfill a much greater purpose: to destroy the works of Satan, (1 John 3:8) and to usher in God’s kingdom. But greatest of all, he despised the shame of the cross, won our redemption, and sat down at the Father’s right hand. Hebrews 12:2
As his disciples, we too are to lay aside our own comfort and safety for a much greater cause: to see his kingdom come and his will done, and to engage in the ministry of reconciliation. Matthew 6:10, 2 Corinthians 5:19. To do so will bring us into direct conflict with the enemy for as 2 Timothy 3:12 warns, “everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.” NLT
So how do we persevere? Through the power of the Holy Spirit and by remembering that:
He who called us is faithful, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. To his rule and reign, there will be no end. Isaiah 9:6, Luke 1:33
Through Christ, we are God’s bold and empowered children. We are more than conquerors. 2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 8:37, John 1:12
Remaining faithful in trials and persecution benefits us. Our faith is refined and we build up great reward in heaven. Romans 5:3-5, 1 Peter 1:6-7, Matthew 5:10-12
We are in a spiritual war, fighting not against people but against unseen demonic forces. Ephesians 6:10-17
Keep an eternal perspective. Our real life is hidden with Christ in God. If we persevere, we will share in his glory and we will rule and reign with him. Colossians 3:1-4, Romans 8:16-17, 2 Timothy 2:12
By remembering these truths, we can do good and endure for the sake of him who endured all things.
