Build Memorials for His Glory – Dale Buchanan
Today the “woke” crowd wants to tear down monuments. Sometimes, in their ignorance of history, they destroy the monuments of heroes who fought for the same ideals they have.
I am thankful for the American founding fathers. Godly men and women established this nation on principles from God’s Word. The Bible-based Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution have helped make this nation great. Heroes from the Revolutionary War down through modern times sacrificed everything so we could live free. We must continue memorializing these significant American heroes and major American historical events.
Besides patriotic memorials, be sure to develop significant personal memorial days – especially when you accepted Christ as Savior.
In Joshua 4:4-9, Joshua established a memorial. God had sustained the Israelites in the wilderness for forty years. One and a half to two million had crossed the Jordan River on dry land during flood season. Joshua instructs the people to take 12 stones from the river bed where they had crossed and set them up as a memorial on the west side of Jordan. Through this monument, future generations could learn about the amazing miracle God had performed for them. What an example for us today!
As a born-again Christian, I remember the day, time, and place where I trusted Christ as Savior. My baptism, ordination to the ministry, and wedding day became monumental days in my life. These decisive days are unforgettable in my mind. Many other “memorial” days shaped my life.
Build and mark memorials in your life – especially about your day of salvation. Let your children, family, friends, and acquaintances know about this and other important days in your life. Psalm 105:2 (KJV) commands us, “Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works.”
