Believe The Truth – Toni M. Babcock
One of the biggest lies we could ever tell ourselves is this — “I can’t be happy doing whatever it is God is asking of me.” Really? That lie is as old as Eden. Remember how the Devil convinced Eve she wouldn’t be happy unless she chose her own way and got what she wanted? Well, she listened to him and it didn’t end well. The devil wants us to believe God is in the business of making life miserable when it comes to doing His will. The question is, do we believe him?
God doesn’t deny circumstances in this life can get tough. He knows it’s not always ‘fair’. He knows it can call for self-sacrifice, endurance, and suffering thorough various challenges— challenges we might not choose for ourselves. He’s also well aware of the folks who flaunt His authority and appear to be having the time of their lives. But none of this should really matter in the grand scheme of things. What does matter is who do we want cheering us on and giving us our directives? Would it be God, our own self-interest (which is never completely trustworthy) or a spiritual nemesis who happens to be the Devil?
The key to success in life is to learn to live above our circumstances and get our cues from God and His Word. Failure to do this, and we’re likely to falter in making some of the most important decisions of our lives.
Never assume God wants to make you miserable when He asks you to do anything. Believe the truth instead. Jesus promised “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly,” (John 10:10b KJV).
Dear Lord, grant us faith to believe your will is best, and the wisdom to choose it at all times. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
