Subject: 🇦🇹Weingut Franz Hirtzberger New Releases🇦🇹

Franz Hirtzberger is one of the greatest producers in the Wachau for dry white wine.

The approach at Hirtzberger is the pursuit of optimum ripeness, meticulous work in the vineyards, and intimate knowledge of each terroir.  Each year they do between 4 and 5 passes for every vineyard, only picking clusters when they are absolutely perfect. You can compare this harvest approach to Grand Cru white Burgundies, and at a fraction of the price of even the most precious Hirtzberger cuvées.

In the cellar, indigenous yeasts are used & fermentations are done in steel, but aging is in larger, older foudres. A special feature of Hirtzberger wines is Franz’s belief in not too long a time on the lees and no batonage in order to best express the purity and minerality of each parcel. For those who love great wine, we have the very distinct honor to offer these!

95 Points WE “The richness and texture of sun-ripened russet pear peel is prominent on the nose, promising concentration. Hints of grapefruit peel, crushed sage and salty yeast complete the picture. The palate reprises these notions, bathed in more citrus than the nose suggests: Yes, there is bold, ripe fruit, but also concentrated, tingling, vivid freshness. The finish rings long with vivid sprays of white pepper and juicy pear.”
2018 Weingut Franz Hirtzberger Gruner Veltliner Ried Steinporz
$660 case
100% Riesling, Sustainable, About 30-Year-Old Vines, Hand-Harvested, Fermented Naturally, Gneiss-Loess Soils
96 Points WE “Tangerine and peach unite on the nose in a quite disarming fashion. The palate comes in with more peachy juiciness and adds overtones of ripe passion fruit with both its tartness and tropicality. A lovely seam
of vivid, zesty freshness cuts through the generous, abundant and juicy
fruit, always with exotic highlights, always with zesty aromas. This
has life and drive, energy and brio..”
