Very Happy to Offer from France’s winemaking Royal Family

2014 Jean Louis Chave Selection Saint Joseph Blanc “Circa”

$35 bottle

The vineyards for Circa (formerly Céleste) are located in Mauves on terraced, granitic slopes. It is the only white produced by Jean Louis Chave which comes from granitic soil. This wine is now available since 2009 thanks to the purchase by Domaine Jean Louis Chave of a well reputed historic St Joseph domaine. The wine is so stunning, Jean Louis continues to plant more Roussanne on the unplanted granite soils of this newly acquired domaine. This white St Joseph differs from the white Hermitage in that the soil of white Hermitage (clay and limestone) gives softness and suppleness to the wine whereas the St Joseph granite soil expresses a wonderful minerality which perfectly accompanies food and gives an additional sense of vivacity.
Wine growers in the northern Rhône since 1491, the Chave family represents 16 generations of unbroken lineage committed to the production of some of the finest Syrah, Marsanne, and Roussanne on the planet. Jean Louis joined his father in 1992 after completing undergraduate studies at University of Connecticut and a degree in oenology at Davis. It was at that time that he completely replanted vineyards on the family’s original estate in Saint-Joseph, which had been abandoned in the early 1900’s when phylloxera hit the region.
