The Creme de la Creme of the Vintage
2013 Domaine Giraud Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Grenache de Pierre
$575 6pack
92-95 Wine Advocate
“Easily one of vintage's more profound efforts, it has rock-star aromatics (cassis, licorice, roasted meats), medium to full-bodied richness and ripe tannin that emerge on the finish. I love the texture here, and while it shows the vintage's more mid-weight style, it doesn’t lack for depth or length. One of my favorite estates, Marie and Francois Giraud burst onto the scene in 2001 when they took over the running of the estate from their parents. Since then, and with help from consultant Philippe Cambie, it’s been one superb set of releases after another.” Jeb Dunnuck
2013 Domaine Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige
$792 case of 12
92-94 Wine Advocate
“One of the vintage’s superstars is the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige, which consists of roughly 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre and other permitted varieties. Aged mostly in foudre, yet with 30% in a combination of 25-hectoliter tanks and demi-muid, it has full-bodied richness in its black raspberry, black cherry, garrigue, toasted spice and licorice-driven aromas and flavors. Like the other 2013s from this estate, it has beautiful ripeness (even though harvest here was on the earlier side), sweet tannin and fantastic length.” Jeb Dunnuck
2013 Domaine Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee
$540 case of 12
91-93 Wine Advocate
“Made from 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that was aged 70% in foudre and 30% in tank, the 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is an awesome wine in the vintage. Pepper, underbrush, ground herbs and loads of raspberry and blackberry give way to a medium-bodied, polished Châteauneuf that has sweet tannin, good acidity and a terrific finish. Given the quality of the fruit and texture, this will drink nicely on release, yet also age gracefully.” Jeb Dunnuck
2013 Domaine Roger Sabon Chateauneuf du Pape le Secret de Sabon
$1128 case of 12
92-94 Wine Advocate
“One of the few special cuvees produced in the vintage, Sabon’s Grenache-dominated 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape le Secret de Sabon is a perfumed, elegant effort that has impressive aromatics, medium to full-bodied richness, plenty of depth and high, yet sweet, tannin that emerges on the finish. I was shocked to see this level of quality out of a Grenache-driven cuvee in 2013. It should have an easy 15 years of longevity.” Jeb Dunnuck
2013 Domaine de Marcoux Chateauneuf du Pape
$756 case of 12
91-93 Josh Reynolds
“Deep red. Potent, highly perfumed aromas of candied red berries, incense and smoky minerals, with a suave floral overtone. Spicy, focused and pure, with sweet raspberry and cherry flavors given spine by juicy acidity. In a graceful, almost weightless style, finishing with excellent clarity and silky, late-arriving tannins. Note that there was no separate Vieilles Vignes bottling in this vintage; that juice went into this wine!
