Subject: Get Ready for Some Classic Claret!

The historic Chateau Rauzan Segla in the appellation of Margaux dates to the reign of Louis XIV. When the Châteaux were classified in 1855, Château Rauzan-Segla ranked Deuxieme Grand Cru Classe, equal to Château Mouton Rothschild. Over the last thirty years, successive owners have made great investments to the property, consolidating the Grand Vin as a true super-Second.
"In a commune fraught with irregular performers, thank the Lord for Château Rauzan-Ségla, one of the most consistent wines in Margaux. Its wines seem to be dismissed a little too lightly by wine commentators...But those claret drinkers seeking a name that is reliable, consistent, trustworthy and perhaps most crucially well-priced need look no further."

2006 Rauzan Segla
$105 bottle
93 Points Robert Parker
"On the same qualitative level as this estate’s brilliant 2005, but with slightly less sucrosite, this blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, exhibits a 1986-like personality ,a very successful vintage at Rauzan Segla. Its deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of bay leaf, black currants, licorice, truffles, and a touch of toast, dazzling fruit, and plenty of ripe, but not astringent tannin. This is a medium to full-bodied, classic, pure, surprisingly approachable Rauzan Segla that will be at its finest between 2012-2025+."
2005 Rauzan Segla

94+ Robert Parker
"One of the most beautiful Rauzan-Seglas made in decades, this blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest primarily Merlot and tiny dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot exhibits a gorgeous perfume of spring flowers, subtle mint, black cherries, black currants, licorice, and a hint of new oak. It offers medium to full body, sweet tannins, and a layered mouthfeel that builds incrementally to a sensational finish. Although this beauty is performing well, it remains a decade away from its plateau of maturity. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2030+."

"In my barrel assessment I hinted that this Rauzan-Segla might merit an additional point in bottle and so it came to pass! It has very good intensity on the nose with thick layers of raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of orange peel and graphite. The palate is full-bodied, adding weight all the time in the glass, quite plump with good solid structure. It is blessed with a lovely cedar-tinged finish with a length that can only leave you smiling. Drink 2012-2025. Tasted November 2008." — Neal Martin
1999 Rauzan Segla
$185 bottle

"Tasted at the 1999 horizontal at Bordeaux Index. This has a lovely, elegant nose with plush red-berried fruit, good definition, touches of cooked meat, violets and a sprinkle of Asian spice. It just lacks a little vigour, but it evolves a nice cedary element with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with an engaging sense purity. Red-berried fruit, wild hedgerow, summer lawns! So elegant and unpretentious with a simple, yet harmonious finish. Lovely. Drink now-2018. Tasted June 2009."
